I was just wondering if you provide data wipe services? I have an old computer and laptop that both need the data wiping for peace of mind before I dispose of them. If you can't could you please recommend someone who can? Commonly known as Data Erasure, this is kind of the opposite of what a data recovery service is.

Could somebody please get back to me via email regarding possible data recovery. I have lost the data on portable 'my passport' hard drive made by WD mark. Not sure whether its possible to restore that thought SQL somehow so I would apprecaite your contact as soon as possible. I am in London near to the Bank tube station.

My iPhone (5s) stopped working because memory was overloaded I think. I couldn't see anything but an apple icon. I tried to refresh it but it didn't work. I did a factory reset and now I have new version of iOS and only 300 photos (from iCloud) of my 7000 in total. I have contact local repair services in Manchester, Bury and tried internet recovery programmes with no result. Phone has no value for me without these images. I don't mind if you take it apart. I must have my photos back. Can you help me? (PS: I have send one message before, but I think this one is more precised)

2TB Seagate Expansion Hardrive - Already contained approximately 1.5TB worth of schooling data (high school, undergraduate and postgraduate data), media and other backup data. Was adding more media onto the hard drive when it crashed. Disconnected and reconnected the hard drive and computer says it has an unrecognised file system. Was previously formatted to FAT32. I live in Lancashire (Greater Manchester) and sometimes travel to London.

Data recovery company Data Clinic Ltd are specialists in rescuing the files from computer hard drives and phones that can't be accessed by regular means. Examples of some of the work they do follows...

We have a 2TB HDD taken out of a Lacie drive that my son dropped on the floor and now the unit will not initilise. Its spins up the arms keep popping out and making like a grinding noise. It had our personal photos on there which we had mostly backed up but there was a folder we didnt back up and would like to retrieve. We are in Leeds.

The Freecom external hard drive was not read or recognised by any PC when plugged in. The IT officer at my College in London managed to get a PC to read the drive, but it says 'drive need to be reformatted before use'. Formatting the drive will render all data (that I accumulated from the four years of PhD) lost. Thus, I need to recover files from the external hard drive to a new hard drive.

I work in Liverpool and my Seagate external USB hard drive is picked up when plugged into the computer but I cannot access it. I haven't used it in a while and it's now clicking when plugged in. I read that it does that when dropped but I haven't dropped it and it has been in a case since the last time I used it.
It's giving message "hard drive imminent failure detected" message and does not boot. It comes from a Lacie case.

My usb disk has been damaged and the Freecom internal board has become separated from the connection. I know there is a Data Clinic office in Manchester and the board itself appears not to be damaged. Does this sound like something which could be repaired? Approximately how much will it cost?

I got external HDD seagate 2gb mac formated. I'm based in Northampton and due to unsafe disconnection the drive stopped working.
Data are not critical but good to have.
Please let me know the price

I have a Maxtor 3.5, manufactured Jan 2005, DiamondMax Plus 8, ATA/133 40GB HDD. It has stopped working and there are signs of overheating on the PCB (chip popped maybe).
What is the cost for retrieving the data from this disk? The hard drive is in Sheffield.

Hi everyone, can anyone of my data recovery specialists help me with retrieving the files from these hard disk faults? If yes please contact me!

I have elderly mac whose disk does not work (makes noises no startup).
I would like the disk image of it taken if at all possible.

Desktop External Drive Sata 2000gb 3.5in 5400rpm WD20EARX 6gb/s 64mb Cache, Model WD20EARX 00PASB0. The pcb board failed and was replaced with a donor included swapping the firmware chip. It now spins up but is not detected by the pc. The actuator arm clicks, making several attempts to initialise/access data then parks up again. The arm never actually gets to the point of scanning the over the platter, it just gets as far as the edge then retreats back repeatedly. My main concern is to retrieve what is probably about 300gb of music and 500gb of tv programs, not so concerned about the films although if i can retrieve everything, that would be a bonus.

I've got an old iphone 5 that won't switch on or charge, but i have so many old pics and vids that i'd like to recover. Before it died, the screen had internal issues – the screen resolution was so low, you can't tell whether it's on or off. Is it possible for you to recover al my pics and videos? if o i'd like to use this service.

My external hard disk drive WD20EARX keeps making a beeping sound when connect to a pc/laptop i hear a beeping sound coming from the hard drive and i can not access the hard drive .i just want to tranfer the data to another hard drive please help

I have a LaCie external drive used to store photos. I’m trying to download some albums to my Mac and get an error message that a number of files are unreadable. Some copy fine, some will not. Is there a way I could recover all contents to a new HD and if so how much would it cost?

I've recently received enquiries asking for help in rescuing the files from various types of mobile phone that can not be accessed for one reason or another. Most of us carry huge amounts of valuable data on our phones and if we drop our phones, or delete messages that we wanted to keep contacting a phone recovery company in usually the best action. In one of my recent posts I wrote about phone recovery and how data recovery services work with mobile phones. Here are some of the enquiries:

  1. My mobile phone just went in factory reset and I have nothing left in my phone. I have stopped using the mobile phone so the data isn't overwritten. Please kindly let me know if you will be able to help
  2. My daughter disabled my phone by putting in the wrong passcode. It now has restarted itself and is in restore mode. I had not backed up my phone and I would like some precious pictures retrieved
  3. Phone has been reset- lost all photos. They are not appearing on iCloud storage? Any chance of retrieval ?
  4. Water damaged iPhone 6s Won’t turn on + been in rice for 3 days. Want to retrieve 30gb of photos and videos
  5. I'm just inquiring in regards to recovering a call log from a specific number from my Samsung galaxy S8+ within the past 12 months.

The next question people ask is "how much does phone data recovery cost?". The answer is "between £95 and £300 depending on the problem". Contact a phone data recovery specialist and talk your requirement through with them. Once they know how much work is involved they should be able to give you a cost for the work.

I need a data recovery service on my Netgear Readynas which has some WD Green hard drives that are not working properly. I am located in Bolton, part of Greater Manchester.

The drive is a 3TB Sata Western Digital WD30EZRX. I have a pair of these drives in the Netgear NAS. One has failed and the culprit is 'for sure' the controller board. Removed controller board from the working drive and installed it on the drive that was dead and this now works and reads fine. I have a user who has experienced a SMART error on his Intel SATA SSD M.2. I have tried unsuccessfully to recover the data using an external SSD adapter card. There are extremely vital emails on the drive which unfortunately have not been backed up and are required for a very important project. Would you be able to offer any advice on whether this data is recoverable and possibly a quote for the service?

Cannot connect to my computer anymore (no sign that it works at all). I think there is a problem with the cable or the way to plug it in. The cable cannot be removed as my dad tried to fix it with glue… so I'm really stuck with my data that I cannot access!

1. When I was copying images onto the drive, it froze, and I unplugged the drive directly
2. When I then tried to connect, it says that the disk needs to be formatted. I have tried to remove it safely but it froze when I did that, so I removed the drive directly again.
3. I tried to connect the drive again and now it says the disk parameter is incorrect. Explorer would freeze when I tried to disconnect it safely.
4. The hard drive is 1TB, with around 600G of data on it.

As I said above, I need a clinic for my broken Netgear Readynas in Bolton, Manchester.

I recently lost some data from my mobile phone and needed to get them back. Fortunately I'd previously written a blog on mobile phone data recovery (here), so this time I followed the instructions on the page and managed to recover my files. It's then that I discovered that many people lose data from their phones - for example:

- I have a Samsung s6 mobile phone . the screen is damaged and does not power up. And the USB port is damaged. I don't care about the phone. Just the pics of my wedding that are stored on it

- iPhone 7 fell in water – stuck on apple logo and hasn't been backed up so at a massive risk of losing all my data on the phone

- My phone just died beyond repair I tried going to the apple store, I just want to restore the data on the phone

- I have call recorder on my HTC one mini 2. I had a precious conversation on it with my granddaughter. Only this morning I accidentally deleted it. Please would you be able to retrieve it. I downloaded a app on my computer but it was not able to root to my phone, whatever that means.

broken phone

- I have a Samsung S6 Edge that failed last week – it just switched off and will no longer charge or switch on, instead a section of the motherboard near to where the battery connects to the MB just gets hot. I have a large number of photos on this device which I am very keen to retrieve. This device has onboard storage only.

- My iPhone 6 crashed a month ago and won’t restart (if I try to switch on the phone it just shows the apple logo and then a black screen). I’m looking to recover my data (in particular my photos). Would you be able to provide a quote to recover my data?

- Samsung galaxy mini3 deleted photos can you retrieve them at all please

My recommendation is that you follow the link above to learn how to recover your phone's data.

I have a laptop hard drive, that initially failed to boot. I took the hard drive out and connected it to my PC and was able to see the files on one of the partitions (D Drive). The then connected my external hard to copy the files over, but the pc crashed. The pc was restarted and when i try to connect the laptop external hard, it does not appear in My Computer. I have checked under disk management and the drive is shown an unallocated, when i try to initialize disk, I get an "Data Error CRC" message and The drive size is 320GB and is a seagate Momentus 320 GB. Is the data recoverable?

CRC errors tell us that the hard drive your files are stored on is damaged. A CRC error is generated when the hard drive is instructed by the computer to read a file from the hard drive but fails. The file to read is actually stored as a sequence of 0's and 1's and when the hard disk has read it successfully the file is presented to the user on the computer. When the file can not be read from the disk, one of the causes is a CRC error.

CRC stands for Cyclic Redundancy Check and is a checksum the computer makes of the data it has read. If the checksum is wrong the computer knows the information has been read incorrectly and it will try to read it several times more until eventually either succeeding or giving up. People with CRC problems on their hard drives will notice that file access takes a long time and their computers run very slowly.

The answer is to either get a data recovery company to get the files off of your CRC damaged hard drive, or if the data on the drive is not valuable to you, just go and buy a new hard drive. Throw away a drive that has CRC problems as they are never going to get any better, just worse. Having a hard drive with CRC problems is an accident waiting to happen.

Western Digital (or 'WD') are makers of popular hard drives, such as the My Passport and My Book. Quite often WD drives will fail with some sort of device error. We were wondering what the device error messages actually mean, so we asked USB Enclosure. Was making clicking noise this has since stopped but windows doesn't recognize it and asks for it to be formatted, cancel button clicked each time this question appears. We are based at the ICC broadstreet, Birmingham, as are Data Clinic, in the Quayside Tower.

Dropped onto floor and now the connection point is loose – I think it has come off the motherboard. Is there anyway it can be repaired as it contains all my teaching resources from the last 18 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Birmingham

I have a WD "My Passport" external hardrive. Bought it around 2011 to use mostly for backing up media files for BBC Birmingham. Today when I tried to access the drive, it told me the drive is not accessible and I have seen each of these error messages: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". and "The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error"

I use a WD My passport Ultra to store family photos and videos. The drive has stopped being recognised by my Mac mini and I can hear a clicking noise when it is turned on. How much would it cost to recover this data? Is this transferred to a new external hard drive?

I've got a western digital external drive that doesn't seem to start any more. The green ring flashes every second but there's no noise from the drive and it doesnt connect to my laptop. Can you give me a call to discuss?

I am looking to recover the data on a WD HDD which crashed after limited physical trauma and is inaccessible at present.

The hard drive is not accessible. In the Disk Management says that the disk is formatted in RAW. What should I do?

In 2015 I installed Linux on my laptop computer. I didnt really know what I was doing, and managed to overwrite windows so that the disk then showed the data as raw. However, I had a wallet.dat file on there (bitcoin) and this wasnt backed up. This is the only piece of valuable data I lost, do you think it would be possible to recover this file?

WD My Passport for Mac external drive cannot be read. Message comes back that it is not readable and it shows up as RAW in disk management. Have tried to read it on two different computers. Same result. Have tried First Aid on Disk Utility in Utilities for Mac. No effect. I need one large folder of my Bitcoin Wallet transactions from the file transferred to another WD external drive I have.

My advice is as follows:

  • Determine what caused the hard drive to become RAW. This is usually a filesystem corruption.
  • Do NOT use any type of file recovery software on the hard drive, you'll only make matters worse
  • Log into a data recovery site like http://data-recovery-tips.co.uk/ and do some fault finding using the troubleshooting guides on the site. Note they also have a good blog section that you should check out too.

Depending how technically confident you are, you may like to try and rescue the data yourself. My advice is if your data matters, then you should always use a professional company to handle your data recovery requirement.

It's worthy to note that G-RAID hard drives sometimes run a RAID file structure which see's the files stored on the hard drives in a distributed segmented way rather that sequentially. Subsequently data recovery on RAID hard drives can be problematic. My advice with all RAID data recovery occurrences is to take the RAID to a data recovery expert - personally I use the guys at http://www.recover-deleted-data.co.uk/ when I've got to get files back from any sort of RAID device, not just G-RAIDs. Here are the questions:

Thunderbolt G-Raid drive is recognised by computer and you can see the files on the disk. But when you try to browse the files it crashes finder and you have to unplug it. I'm located in Manchester but can bring the drives to either Wolverhampton (Birmingham) or London locations.

I have a 4 x Seagate 2TB hard drives which are combined together into a 4 disk RAID 5 system. The system is made by a company called G-RAID but I'm unsure of which model I have. It failed on me a couple of years ago but I've never got round to trying to fix. I did take it to a couple of 'computer shops' around London (where you can mobile phone accessories – that sort of place) but they didn't have any luck.

One of our clients in Wolverhampton has an external G-RAID RAID 5 whose hard drives appear to have died, when it is connected (proprietary connector and sata) it spins briefly and then stops: It is not detected by Windows, we have tried on multiple machines. Our client is quite upset as she has family pictures and backups on the drive. Could you give us a quote to recover the drive? Inside the G-RAID the device the hard drives are Samsung 4 x ST1000LM024 1000GB. we have had a failure on one of our laptop SSDs we are after some documents recovering.

My previous desktop failed some time ago and although I never figured it out what caused it the motherboard was clearly beyond repair because when I swapped in a different psu it would start up at all, the system was totally dead. I've recently got a new desktop and wanted to recover the data from the old hard disk which was an ide connection and so I had no intention of making it a part of the new system. What I really want from it is theasy photos of my daughter when she was wee. I got an ide to usb adapter from Novatech but when I connected it up there was a nasty smell and a wisp of smoke from the power input to the disk. I intend to check the power lead in case there was a manufacturing fault which led to it giving the wrong voltage. My concern is that the board on the disk might be shorted out and I'm reluctant to try a different adapter, even one borrowed from a friend which i know is good in case I damage the disk further. So what I'd like is a quote for recovering the data on the disk.

IDE hard drives have not been widely used for almost 10 years now. Their SATA replacement hard drives featured a new type of connection that got rid of the parallel data cable and 4 wire D-connector type power cable

When the hard drive starts to smoke it means there is a problem with the electronic controller board of the hard drive. This is usually caused by a fault - usually in the voltage regulator chip that prevents the hard drive from powering up. Replacing the hard drive PCB with an identical one won't work as the board also controls a map of how the data is stored on each hard drive. So if you need the data from the hard drive you'll need a way of transferring the drive mapping from the old disk to the new disk too.

Here are a couple of data recovery enquiries I received about the feasibility of getting the files back from Seagate and Drevo hard drives that are no longer showing up.

I have a samsung M3 Portable hard drive (now Seagate) which has just stopped working. When you plug it in with the USB it very quietly makes a repetitive tonal sound that is internal to the device and sounds like it isn’t able to work – almost like when a CD skips, but not quite. It usually hums as soon as you plug it in, but it sounds unable to. The light on the device, however, does come on. The drive does not show up where it usually does on my laptop, although the laptop knows the USB is connected. I’m sure it’s a problem with the drive and not my laptop, as I’ve tried it on 2 different laptops. It is a personal drive (not work related) so it’s not essential I recover the files on it, but I would really like to, as there are photos and so forth on it. Any hope?

My Drevo X1 Pro SATA III 256gb SSD hard drive has failed. I'd had problems with my MacBook Pro previously, where it couldn't connect to my old HDD. Replaced it with an SSD, still couldn't connect. Replaced the hard drive cable, which solved the problem. All working fine until one day out of the blue I had the same issue again. The MacBook couldn't find the SSD or boot up etc. Initially thought it was the same problem, ordered a new hard drive cable, but that didn't fix the problem. Took it to the campus IT shop, they ran some tests, came to the conclusion that the hard drive was faulty, as he couldn't connect to it from his systems either. His comments on the invoice were as follows: "Cannot pick up SSD hard disk. Tested hard disk in a another PC – also not picked up either in bios or macdrive diagnostic software. Tested the cable with known good Mac hard disk – ok. Conclusion – faulty Drevo SSD hard disk." He also said that it looked like whatever connectors there were in there, that they could be faulty.

My comment: Until I've taken a good look at each drive to discover what's wrong, I'm not able to say if I can recover the files. From the symptoms above, I', hopeful that I can get the drives showing up again and retrieve the files, but I really do need to diagnose them first

When you have a broken hard drive that you need to get the files from you have to send your computer disk to a data recovery company to get them to retrieve your data. They will examine your hard drive and find out what is wrong with it. Then they'll send you a report detailing the faults and issues. Here's a standard report:

This is the report from another company I used two years ago:
The report from the lab has been finalized and the engineer has reported the following.
· When powered the drive clicks and spins down
· Drive opened within clean lab for internal examination
· Failing read/write heads preventing access to data
· Possible damage on media surface area causing mechanical and logical read/write operation to fail.
· Partition tables unreadable due to read/write failure
Access to data is unsuccessful due to damaged read/write heads.
The heads are the mechanical components that read/write data to/from the internal platters.
The work required to correct the faults include:
1. Drive disassembled within clean lab facility
2. Drive rebuilt with compatible donor heads
3. Drive to be placed on Data Extractor to improve stability and read/write process
4. Attempted Sector by sector image
This is a highly skilled process that is not infallible. The chance of a successful recovery once this process has been completed is approx: 70%.
Unfortunately there are currently no parts in stock to complete the rebuild but we can purchase a compatible donor from our suppliers in the US.

As you can see, a data recovery report clearly identifies what the problem with the hard drive is and the chance of them getting your data back should you decide you want to proceed with the data recovery cost. You can expect to pay in the region of £300 to £700 for a data recovery service from a hard drive.

When it comes to being asked to recover data from large systems running RAID - I always pass the work onto a competent company like Data Clinic's RAID recovery team. ICO compliant with your data security, their team retrieves the information from RAID systems (HP, Qnap, and NAS, running RAID 5, 6, 10 and 50, throughout most of the UK. Furthermore whilst I work on a 5-7 day schedule, Data Clinic have an emergency service that recovers data ASAP - sometimes the same day.

Here are 3 example enquiries I've had lately where Data Clinic were able to recover the client's files.

I have a server disk which one of our users has accidentally deleted approx. 70gb of data, which we now need recovered. The OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 – 64bit

I have a Iomega 200D with 4 x 1TB Seagate SATA drives installed configured in a RAID 5 array. One of the drives has failed and we are no longer able to access the data on the device.

We've had our QNAP NAS fail recently and we need to copy the data from our drives. It's a 4x2TB setup with the 2nd bay appearing to be malfunctioning. We bought a new drive for that bay but it failed to mount and rebuild. This means that the drives are probably all in good shape but the NAS itself is non-functioning. Can someone come have a look ASAP please, it's extremely urgent that we have this data copied over to a new drive.

Data Clinic's RAID recovery team are based in Manchester and London but also recover data across the UK, still on an emergency (same day) service.

I'm sometimes asked why I don't handle RAID data recovery work myself - the answer is simple: RAID is a very complex type of data storage where files are stored in segments across all the hard drives in the RAID array - this data once recovered, has to be pieced back together rather like a patchwork quilt - this is a very skilled job that is beyond the capabilities of most, including me, therefore that's why I leave it up to Data Clinic.

My wife's iphone 6s has been through the washing machine, is there anyway you can obtain the photos and what sort of costs is this?

My samsung s4 screen is smashed. I just want the photos and videos from the phone. are you able to do this and how much will it cost?

Our old iPhone is 'disabled-connect to iTunes'
iCloud is showing backed up from Feb 2015 onwards but it's our daughters baby pictures 2yr prior to that we are so desperate to retrieve.
The iPhone was never backed up with iCloud / synced to a device so all our photos are locked in this phone that we can't get into.

I have damaged my phone by dropping it in a water. Is there a chance to recover data, especially photos from device without mechanical opening it.

My iPhone 5 does not turn on and does not charge anymore. I would like to recover data from the phone (only interested in Contacts and Photos).

I have a phone which will no longer turn on (not battery or charge port issue) and I desperately need to retrieve one photo in particular from the internal memory. It is a Sony Xperia – please help!

I want accidentally deleted texts messages from August 2016 -beginning September retrieved for court evidence. Can you do this? If so How much will this cost please? I have an apple iPhone 6

OnePlus 5 smartphone has been salt-water damaged and won't boot, what should the price be to recover the photos/videos from it?

My phone had water damage. I sent it to a friend who is apparently a phone technician and explained that my pictures on there are very important to me and I need them. He has had the phone for 3 months now and I have just received the following message with details on what he has done and why he can't fix it….
'Phone came in water damaged and wouldn't turn on, had short on speaker amp ic, also fried tristar and Tigris. Reballed speaker ic and replaced tristar and Tigris. Phone then fully working again, sent back. A day later the main audio ic failed. The phone was sent back to me (still working), given the go ahead to change the audio ic, warned of possible cpu damage. Changed the audio ic, this caused the backlight ic on the other side of the board to short because of underfill / solder expansion. Phone would detect through iTunes but no display or bl. Pads pulled on backlight ic because of underfill removal. Was told that the data on the phone wasn't backed up when returned the first time before being sent for more work. Tried connecting to iTunes to do a backup but code required on the phone, tried using an external backlight with just the Lcd panel connected but nothing still displayed on the phone. Replaced chestnut Lcd driver, now phone will pull current from the charger but no longer detected in iTunes. Removed chestnut and still nothing in iTunes, suspect cpu damage.

Recently I've been experiencing a particularly difficult problem with my desktop hard drive. It has failed and i need the data extracting from it. As I'm located in streatham hill, london I've sent it to Datlab data recovery London branch.

External 1TB Seagate Hard Drive not being recognised by MacBook. Faint beeping on plugging in but drive not starting up. This contains around 800GB of very sentimental photos & videos, which are not backed up. Based in London and can travel so can you look at the drive?

I have many important documents and family photos stored on a Samsung external hard drive. I have never had any problem writing to this drive or reading from it until recently when my laptop and other computers I have tried have failed to recognise it completely when connected via USB. I need to recover as much data from it as possible and am 5 miles south of London.

I have a Seagate Expansion drive that has been dropped and no longer connects to my PC. What would be the cost to recover the data if it is possible.

I was hoping to obtain a quote for the retrieval of data from a Seagate external hard drive. When connected to a laptop the hard drive connection was severed when the hard drive fell off a desk. The 'safely remove hardware' procedure not been completed. After this, the hard drive is no longer recognised by any computer which I have tried the drive in. The computer is aware there is a connection, but it is never possible to open the drive. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the hard drive but this hasn't worked. I would be grateful if you could indicate the likely cost of retrieving the files from the drive?

I travel frequently and after my most recent trip my external hard drive ( model: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FP50JAG?tag=ps-uk-seagate-01-21) cannot be read. It powers on, I can hear noises coming from it yet it doesn't seem to be recognized by my PC. Questions: 1) How much would the service cost? 2) What timeline can I expect? 3) Can you pick up the HDD from my business or do I have to personally deliver it?

Hard drive failure on a Seagate 500gb SATA Drive not detectable by external reader or laptop. Looking for quote at this stage – data lost is personal baby photos, and its the HR director for the company!

In this post I've combined together several enquiries for data recovery services from customers in or around the Liverpool area. I'm including Chester here too.

Solid State Drive Won't boot. I want to take some files from it, There are just a few files I need from it importantly that are irreplaceable. My mobile worstation is a m6800 and it says drive doesn't install, check cables.

My 2TB Seagate Backup Plus with not show the drive and the data. Makes beeping sound if ear is placed close to hard drive. Please email as currently working in Liverpool and can't get to a phone because of the type of work I'm doing. If it helps, I live in Aintree and I know there is a local data recovery business in Horton House Liverpool, just behind Exchange Flags.

Hard drive keeps clicking. The computer is recognising it but you cant access the data. Light keeps flashing on the drive. Drive is a WD my passport ultra. I have a fair amount of money to spend on getting this data recovered, so I'm looking to get the recovery done. I don't want to have to take out a second mortgage to get the recovery done thou! Ps I'm near Wallasey, Liverpool.

I have a CCTV system, I want the recover the videos thats been overwrite and gone, and I cant review them anymore

Western digital external USB 3 drive with one PCB for both the drive and adapter (external drives usually gave separate pcb for drive and another one connecting sata to USB) Drive gets power, but is not being recognised by Windows, Mac or Linux. I have a computer system that runs my mortgage advisor / brokering business. I don't know about what costs you charge, but if you are perhaps moving house or require mortgage brokering services perhaps we can have a chat and come to some arrangement.

My portable hard drive seems to have stopped working with any of my devices. Makes a clicking noise and then disconnects itself. It has a lot of photos and music stored on it and no other back up.

There is a physical fault on my laptop hard drive (according to the guy in my local computer shop) I would need data recovery of photos/videos and word documents. If that is possible can you give me a price quote and timeframe for the service.

I own a very old Macpro desktop, circa 2006. This Macpro contains equally old 500GB Seagate hard disks. Model name Barracuda 7200.9 (let me know if any further info regarding the disk itself would be helpful). On this disk I had a windows partition installed via bootcamp. After more than 10 years of mostly faithful service this hard disk finally seems to have died. I can no longer boot the windows partition from the disk, and when I boot into Mac OS I can no longer even see the disk being detected by disk utility or system information apps. Even if the hard disk is dead, there is still data on the disk that I would like to recover. I wanted to come to you to see if this was possible, and if so, if you could give me a quote for recovery from such a disk. Let me know if I can provide any further info.

I wanted to see if my data can be recovered. My OS crashed and I couldn't access my HDD. I tried to boot up Ubuntu to access the files (was previously on Windows 10), but in doing this I accidentally formatted one of the partitions from NFTS to ext4. I can't access the files and want to know if this can be recovered. How much will this cost and what is the lead time?

I was copying some files and suddenly the external hard drive froze. I just unplugged it without stopping it properly and now I cannot access my files anymore. It says: F is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. I cannot remember dropping the device or causing any other physical damage.

Barry says: Disk structuring problems can be simple or difficult to sort out - it depends on the problem. Whether the data is recoverable or not also depends on the problem. Usually Windows machines are easier to work on than Apple ones because of the way the filesystem works. You can contact me direct or try an independent expert like Data Recovery Tips (UK).

I have a Western Digital 'My Passport' external hard-drive that is constantly clicking and is not being detected by my MacBook Pro anymore. I usually use this for Time Machine Backups, but there are also home movies and music files on there as I have no space left on my MacBook hard-drive. I checked the WD website and it is no longer under-warranty. The guidance on the website suggested that it may be that the USB cable is faulty; however, the attachment to the hard-drive is not a type that I have seen before and I cannot find anyone with this cable. Are you able to give guidance/support and a quote for repair please?

Harddisk was run over by a tractor ! Very little damage externally…opened files successfully twice since…now light comes on when you plug it in & it 'fires up' but it is not recognised / does not open on laptops.

I have a Transcend Storejet 1 TB hard drive. Been working perfectly but after removing it from PC yesterday and going out with it, it now fails to be recognised by PC. A window just comes up saying need to format the drive. Previously it was listed in the storage as Transcend, not it is just listed as drive J. How much would it cost to recover the data. I am based in Huddersfield

Do you have any physical office in London where I can bring my hard drive to recover deleted information? Thank you in advance.

Seagate back up plus 1TB. The devise registers when plugged in but no icon appears and unable to access data on it. Funny ticks and noises and feels very warm when plugged it. I have a load or word files for university that inneed to recover if possible.

My WD external drive has failed in typical way, light is blinking, clicking sound, disk doesn't appear.

Drive won't connect to PC, had a quick check up (no attempted data recovery yet, drive hasn't been opened) and was told it is probably an issue with the power?

Here are some examples of computer problems that I regularly fix - please contact me if you would like me to solve your computer problem.

Slow Server 1TB USB Portable Hard drive, Drive was used on a server to store media(images&Video) when the drive died it caused the server to slow to a crawl also now makes a ticking noise. drive detected on PC briefly and then crashes.

Toshiba Canvio not powering up My Toshiba Canvio 3tb external hard drive won't power up. I've had it since October 2014 and it holds a lot of photos, videos and music on there.

Seagate Expansion not recognised Seagate Extension 5TB Drive is now not being recognised by my Mac. Making a short beeping sound and no light flashing as it normally would be. Drive is not showing on disk utility and also causing Mac to crash when plugging in on occasion.

WD with Failure Symptoms My HDD has most of the failure symptoms: clicking noise, beep, not recognised by the computer. It's a WD My Passport 1TB HDD, could you give me a call back starting July 13 (out of the country at the moment) or email back anytime, to discuss how much it will cost to repair and how long will it take?

I dropped my Samsung M3 1TB portable hard drive. It powers up when connected to a computer, but doesn't show up on it, and makes a beeping noise for approximately 10 seconds before stopping. Probably its USB connector port is broken. What are your prices for data recovery?

I recently had a free evaluation from Kroll for a 1TB Western Digital Passport External HD and it was found that it had an internal mechanical failure but a very good chance of data recovery (77% – 100%). Before I sent it, it had been suffering from the "click of death." However, the quote they gave me to recover was very, very expensive, so I was wondering that price range Data Clinic would charge to recover the data? I was recommended your service by a company in York.

Iphone 6 is dead, won't charge or turn on. need to recover data that was not backed up on the cloud namely whatsapp messages, photos since 23/12/2016, notes, videos

Phone wont turn on need phone numbers and pictures - water damage/no longer works or even powers on. I just need to recover the photos

I lost my mobile phone and I need to retrieve phone numbers that are on the lost device

Samsung mobile: Sd card faulty or just disappeared. We were on holiday and and was looking at photos just taken, turned around to show them to my husband and they had disappeared! !! SD card not detected by mobile and my holiday photos gone.

My iPhone is stuck on the apple logo a lot. There is also signs of a red screen too. I tried to update the software but it said I need to restore it t factory settings. I haven't backed up my iphone so I will lose all my informations, photos, data, and so on. I really don't want my photos to disappear, so I really need help with this.

My phone is completely broke smashed and dead but would like to get the pictures off it as they mean a lot

Do you think you'll be able to recover photos from my iPhone 6 which crashed during an iOS upgrade? The phone is now stuck in Recovery Mode and it just shows error 56 whenever I try to upgrade it using my Macbook. I have sent it to Kroll On Track and they said: The software is severely damaged and has ‘cracked’. There is no way to bypass this to access the contents of the device. The data will not be recoverable. The only option would be a repair of the phone, if required. Do you have a different data retrieval method?

My Sony experia z5 was dropped in salt water accidentally after I had the screen repaired and it was not waterproof anymore. I have left the device in rice for 2 days but it won't turn on at all. Could you please advise the likelihood of recovering the data from my internal storage, how much this would cost and how long it will take roughly? Could you please respond via email as I have no phone at the moment!

From all these examples above - it's easy to see how much we value the data on our mobile phones! - Please back your data up!!

Continuing on from a previous blog post of mine (http://techgeek.posthaven.com/phone-not-responsive-lost-data), I have been in touch with more people who are also having phone problems. Rather than bore you with the in's and out's of phone data recovery, I've listed their enquiries. I've not looked at the cases personally, but it should be possible to recover their information in all cases. By the way, if you're wondering what data recovery is all about, have a look at this site: http://www.recover-deleted-data.co.uk/

I would like a data extraction from my iphone 6,the screen is smashed, and I have forgot my pin number ,i did not unfortunately back up the pictures and important messages, contacts etc. How much will this cost to do ?

My son has broken his iphone 6 – screen broken and can not charge at all. He did not back it up at all. Is it possible to get the photos off the phone?

Unfortunately deleted a lot of pictures from my samsung s6 edge phone. Can provide pictures. Mobile snapped by ex. Would like as much data as possible retrieved. Texts, photos etc. Looking for price, timescales etc

Had trouble trasnferring data to SD card. Laptop loaded in windows but didnt detect the hard drive. Plugged in to another source – device ended up crashing. Plugged bag in to laptop – laptop no longer loads beyond black screen

Could you recover data (photos/videos) from an iPhone 6s? Had to have screen replaced and we were not told this would erase all data. Have connected to iTunes but no back up unfortunately. Its like a brand new phone

I have a Samsung S6 mobile phone that will not switch on at all. I accidentally dropped it a couple of months ago, which cracked the screen & the back of the phone. It did work up until yesterday. I have tried re-booting it & connecting it to a computer. The Blue indiactor light at the top of the phone is on / blinking. The phone screen is totally black & un-responsive. I wondered if you think you'd be able to recover the photos I have stored in the phones hard drive?

I have a water damaged iPhone 4s. The phone itself is worthless but I have over a thousand photos plus videos of my children on it I'm desperate to recover. The phone no longer even turns on. Do you think you could help? If so what would it cost all in, absolute total please?

Until next time, Barry.

  • Hard disk has crashed, it has been enclosed in a 2.5" external ide hard disk enclosure. When connected via usb to pc drive not accessible. Need all excel, word and pdf files. Also had two companies set up on sage software which had not been backed up in a while, need access to this information also
  • I have a Western Digital My Passport 500gb ext drive that is making a clicking sound after receiving a slight knock. Windows will not recognise the drive, and I receive a 'fatal' error when trying to access it via Disk Management. I need as many of the files as possible recovered from the drive.
  • MacBook Air, flash storage can't find the hard drive. Apple said SSD needs a firmware update but in order to do that it needs to erase all the data, so I need a backup first or I lose everything (and I don't have a backup)
  • The hard drive has been used for long time, when plugged up the light comes on, but there is no response, the drive does not move, usually you can hear it whine when running. The remote drive is a Freedom 500GB, would you please give me an price for extracting the data, I do not wish to have the drive repaired, I can supply a brand new remote drive for the data to be down loaded to.
  • My 4tb harddrive has stopped working. ATA /SATA password lost
  • Was working perfectly this morning and has completely stopped connecting to my laptop. Work IT guy says that it can be recovered but won't work when plugged in at the moment. I am a teacher and need this sorted immediately. Please let me know the timeline and cost.
  • I have a WD external hard disk and it is not getting detected on any computer that's why I can't access any of my data in it.
  • I have a 5tb Seagate Hard Drive which unfortunatelly fell from the desk on a carpet. When connected to the laptop it shows as a device (I can eject it) but it doesn't actually appear anywhere. I'm interested to know how much it would cost to get it either fixed or have the data recovered.
  • Device not getting detected. Recurring clicking sound, but the platter sounds like it is spinning. Possibly the heads are moving back and forth.

Opening hours are 9am-5pm, Monday to Saturday.

My iPhone restored to factory settings and I hadn't backed up my holiday photos – I'm desperate to get them recovered! My iphone6 was disabled and i had to erase all my data in order to use my phone again. I really want to retrieve all my photos and chat histories if it is possible.

i have a LG G3 which went completely dead a few months ago. Before it went dead there was a error message coming with regards to lack of memory space. Just wanted to know if you would be able to recover any pictures and videos on the phone. And what the charge will be. Also where are you based?

I accidentally deleted videos from what i recorded with the phone camera. It's a Vodafone smart 6. I tried software from the internet like Dr phone for Android and it can not find any videos. What I deleted is what I took in Spain as I did a backup before I went but unable to when I was in Spain. So the date range is from 3 April to Saturday 15 April. The phone in question is turn off and i'm using another phone. I'm enquiring if there is a chance of recovering the lost videos. If so let me know by Email please until tomorrow then you can ring me as I drive for a living.

When i plug my iPhone 6s to the computer, the only option i get was to restore the phone, which i am trying to avoid because I needed the pictures in the phone and they have not been backed up due to short of iCloud storage. I sent the phone to a company but had not been successful in retrieving the data. Hence I am trying to get another opinion on this matter.

Barry's comment: Phone file recovery (otherwise known as 'phone data recovery') includes retrieving information from any type of phone that is broken, unresponsive or no longer accessible. Don't meddle with the phone yourself you'll invalidate your warranty and loose the data you're trying to recover. Seek professional advice - even if you don't use it.

We have a Dell all in one computer using Windows 10. As of today we can't use it. This is the fault code. C:WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SetTrail.txt Could you advise / quote please on the likelihood of recovery and/or repair. We are in Kings Norton. Birmingham B38 0AF THANKS

Harddrive is detected in bios but not in windows or Linux. Makes clicking sound. The laptop it was in wasn't dropped so hopefully it is a system board fault. Please email me as I am out of the country until next week.

My phone died yesterday and will not switch on, please can you recover all phone data I.e. SMS texts, photos, videos, whatsapp etc. The device is a HTC One M7.

I've used the services of Birmingham's Data Clinic several times in the past for the retrieval of file from both an unresponsive hard drive and several mobile phones.

We have a Seagate Laptop SSHD 1000GB from a Dell Inspiron 2350. The PC stopped recognising the HD and we took it to a local PC repair shop who confirmed the HD had failed. We have some files on there which were not backed up which we would like recover.

I have a SSD that has crashed. What is the procedure for sending it to you for data recovery? Would you be able to determine the percentage of recoverable files and the percentage of files unable to be recovered? Do you charge on a sliding scale depending on the percentage of data/files recoverable? What is your range of charges - I'm midlands based near Birmingham and Wolverhampton?

I have a plug in USB hard drive which my laptop stopped recognising. When I plugged it in again it started making a bleeping noise. Can this be repaired or the data (photos) recovered.

My laptop have been dropped and subsequently hdd has been damaged and will not work. How much do you charge for recovery or fixing it?

I have a Freecom Classic SL Hard Drive (160gb) that is probably about 10 years old. I'm located just outside Birmingham, near Wolverhampton. I tried plugging it in for the first time in a while and the power supply sparked a little, then I could see smoke coming out. I'm worried I'll have lost all the data, but if retrieval might be possible I would be hugely grateful.

Most data recovery companies apply a sliding scale of charges for their recovery services which are dependent on how complex the data recovery procedure is that they need to apply in order to recover the files from the device. Companies like Data Clinic will provide you with a cost first. It's up to you if you want to proceed with the recovery or not.

My computer is broken and I would like to retrieve all data, but especially photographs, from it. External USB Hardrive (WD 2TB Passport) fell off desk landing vertically on floor, connector side up. Now when plugged into my Mac, the drive makes a clicking noise and the light flashes. The drive doesn't show in Finder, but appears in Disk Utility, however the single partition is greyed out as if eject. If it makes any difference, the drive was plugged into my RAID server when it broke, however the data had started copying off the drive yet. The drive was about 1/3 to 1/2 full with data, with the majority of it being audio files.

I have and WD Exteranl HD giving a message " the request is failed due to a fatal device hardware error". It has a lot of very important backed up files which I'm desperate to get to as my laptop has been stolen. I wonder how much it cost to get the data off? How long it would take and if you are open next Monday

Failed/failing standalone hard disk. Host OS generates SATA errors (command failures, resets etc.) when trying to access the drive. SMART self tests fail with read errors. Drive is branded as a Samsung "Momentus" but is actually a Seagate ST1000LM024 2.5" 1 TB SATA (used as an external drive via USB). Would like to explore options for data recovery.

My Seagate expansion hard drive is not showing up on my Macbook. I've tried on my friends macbook and it doesn't turn up on disk utility either. There's no problem with the wire as I used it with another hard drive and it worked fine. There are sounds coming from the hard drive that are identical to my other hard drive when plugged in. I'm hoping you'll be able to help with this.

I have a G-Technology GDRIVE Ev ATC External hard drive. I have been using this on my mac book pro for the last 18 months no problem. I have just tried to use it but it is not showing up in the mac book finder. It is showing up on Disk Utility but the volume is greyed out and unmounted. The hard drive light switches on when plugged into the laptop and the hardrive is vibrating suggesting that it is on. But I desperately do not want to risk loosing the video files and video editing projects that are on the hard drive. Is there a way of opening the hard drive and saving the files somewhere else? I am leaving the country on Sunday so this is quite urgent!

I am looking for a price to recover data from an WD My Passport external 1TB hard drive. The drive is clicking so and will not respond. All of a sudden my WD passport wouldn't mount. It wasn't dropped or knocked or anything. I have tried on several comps and with different usb cables in different ports. Disk utility sees it, but it's greyed out and it can't restore it. I ran disk warrior and it failed. Please help! I have to finish a client film on there by Friday!

There was a power cut in our local London area. After I switched my PC back on, I noticed that a large folder and all it's subfolders was now missing from the 'pictures' folder in My PC. This folder contained thousands of image and video files, totalling around 500GB or more. I've used some basic file recovery software that has found most of the image files, but the video files have all come back corrupt.

I have a western digital external hard drive with suspected impact damage. I cannot access or recover any data. Please advise on the cost and procedure of your repair service.

Hardrive was struck against a wooden table. Cracked outercasing but still in tact. when attempting to power up it just powers up then clicks and ceases. Then repeats. No detection thru laptop USB.

External hard drive has stopped working completely. It whirrs briefly into life but then beeps a lot and the motor stops. I have replaced the SATA connection but that has made no difference. Just need to recover data off the drive if possible.

Can not acces the drive. I think is due the drive has been droped , unfortunately. My external hard drive was working yesterday today I couldn't access it. The drive it showing up on the computer but it wont allow access. Could I have someone call me regarding this as all my London dissertation/ university work is on it?

The desktop computer was running a software that was writing files to the hard drive (D). When I came back to the computer the monitor was black and it was not responding and there was no weird noises. I restarted it using the button. When it started the drive (D) was not listed in the explorer, disk manager or device manager. I could not tell if there was any noises from the hard drive or not, but I think it was silent. I have now removed the drive from the computer. OS: windows 7 Hard Drive: 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm SATA 6Gbit/s PS. I would prefer if we could discuss on email and not phone. Then I could call Data Clinic if I think it is necessary.

Here's an interesting enquiry from someone wanting their data back from one of these:

OWC SSD"I had an OWC Aura SSD in my Macbook Pro until Sunday until it stopped mounting when booting up my laptop. I've removed it and put the old original SSD for now. It uses the Sandforce 2281 controller, which I understand makes things very difficult to recover data. Are you aware of any options I have for recovering the data?"

It really depends on what the trouble is with the controller or the SSD main body. Until I have a close look at it I won't know what they problem is. In the meantime have you thought about looking on the web and trying some DIY data recovery on it yourself? Sites like Data Recovery Tips provide excellent advice on what people can try themselves to retrieve inaccessible data from their hard drives. My first recommendation is therefore to browse this site and see if you can find any useful information. If you are still stuck please come back to me and I'll see if I can recover the data for you.]]>
